Supervision & Consultation


Dr. Greenwood has long been dedicated to promoting and supporting the local and broader community of marriage and family therapists in their practice of a systems based approach to therapy and counseling services.  He has had many important mentors throughout his career who were very generous with their vast experience.  It is very important for him to show his gratitude to his mentors by continuing to inspire and mentor the marriage and family therapists of the future and to do his part to ensure that competent and ethical marriage and family services are available to the community.

During his tenure as family therapist on the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry unit of Centra’s Virginia Baptist Hospital he supervised interns from Liberty University, Lynchburg College, Randolph-Macon Women's College, and Virginia Tech, as well as residents working toward licensure.  He provided marriage and family therapy consultation for the Pastoral Counseling Services of Central Virginia for 16 years.  Currently, he is serving as a volunteer mentor for Fellows in the AAMFT Minority Fellowship Program.

Dr. Greenwood offers supervision for Virginia licensure to Residents in Marriage and Family Therapy as well as Residents in Professional Counseling.  His supervisory framework is a family systems model based in structural and strategic family therapy with an overlay of Person of the Therapist training, solution focused brief therapy, and cognitive behavior therapy.  He can help you identify your clinical strengths and enable you to reach your goals of clinical growth and licensure.  His is aware that as a resident you are just starting out in your profession and may have student loans that you are paying down.  He has set his rates with these realities in mind.  In addition to office-based face-to-face supervision, Dr. Greenwood also provides supervision online to those who live too far from his office to make office-based meetings accessible or practical.  He uses a HIPAA compliant video platform to ensure that the supervision sessions are secure and confidential.  He is on the Virginia Board of Counseling Approved Supervisor Registry both for residents in marriage and family therapy and residents in professional counseling.  He is also receiving mentoring to become an Approved Supervisor for the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT -

In addition to offering supervision for licensure to Residents in Marriage and Family Therapy and Residents in Professional Counseling, Dr. Greenwood also offers consultation to other mental health professionals who want to become proficient in marriage and family therapy.  As in supervision for residents for licensure, he provides consultation services both in office and online.  He also provides consultation on site for groups.
